SYRACUSE, N.Y. — John Wildhack, the Syracuse University athletic director and chancellor of the Carrier Dome in downtown Syracuse, announced on Saturday the actual opening date for the Carrier Dome’s newest room — which will eventually be called Destiny USA — and a first-year timetable for its use.
Specifically, Wildhack will spend one week in late May and June educating students at the Carrier Dome on the new facility. He said the experience will allow all former Syracuse fans to register with the Carrier Dome’s Star Visitor Program and have “uninterrupted access” to the court during classes, and will be in the Dome during the preseason.
Additionally, all current and incoming stadium and media relations staffs will be able to stay for one week in the Dome during football season.
Wildhack said the new facility will require renovation in different areas.
“Before, Syracuse students couldn’t sleep over in this modern-day dome,” Wildhack said. “It’s a real commitment to sustainability, a commitment to a new arena, and a commitment to modernization that says, ‘We’re here to stay.’ “
