The disturbed man is always telling his friends, “I rob banks” and “I rob places where you don’t know shit,” and his conversation continues even now that he’s apparently been caught robbing a pet store. But no, John Tran has yet to be caught — and considering he’s only 39 years old, the rest of you may have come to expect this all his life.
Tran, who is actually a graduate of the University of Arizona, drove his stolen getaway car right up to the East Coast, where he took two bags of cash from a Queens pet store. He placed them in front of where the cash is accepted — he said he was picking up some while waiting in a Lexus for his getaway — and then hit on one of the employees with the cash. He was arrested later at his apartment in Brooklyn after a witness recognized him on surveillance video.
The news has received such wide attention that the pet store is feeling a bit overwhelmed: It posted on Facebook:
We are deeply saddened to share the passing of this wonderful man with us, John D. Tran. We wish to express our sympathies to John’s family, friends and fellow employees at the YourPet website. We sincerely appreciate the support our customers have shown and hope they continue to recognize and appreciate your pet store in keeping with our unique approach to pets.
Tran’s hometown, Phoenix, a very long-established CBS affiliate so you can expect that Tran’s last name will probably eventually be Taken.
